Laois offers commuter-belt value, with Portlaoise the main rental hub thanks to its rail link to Dublin Heuston. Rents are noticeably lower than Kildare, but supply is limited and moves quickly. Portarlington and Mountmellick are worth checking for slightly cheaper options.
Since 1 March 2026, a national rent control system applies across Ireland, including Laois. Rent increases are capped at the lower of 2% per year or the general rate of inflation, and rent may be reviewed once every 12 months.
